AstraZeneca’s TRUQAP Approved in the U.S. as First Targeted Therapy for PTEN-Deficient Metastatic Hormone-Sensitive Prostate Cancer

AstraZeneca announced that the U.S. FDA approved TRUQAP (capivasertib) in combination with abiraterone and prednisone as the first and only targeted treatment for patients with PTEN-deficient metastatic hormone-sensitive prostate cancer. The approval was based on results from the Phase III CAPItello-281 trial, which demonstrated a 19% reduction in the risk of radiographic disease progression or death compared with standard treatment alone. The decision also highlights the growing role of biomarker testing in prostate cancer, as PTEN deficiency identifies an aggressive subtype affecting approximately one in four patients with this disease.
