Colossal Biosciences has partnered with the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service to establish the BioVault, a national genetic repository designed to preserve DNA, living cells, and reproductive tissues from more than 2,300 endangered and threatened species across the United States. By safeguarding genetic material before species populations decline further, the initiative aims to create a long-term resource for conservation science, biodiversity research, and potential future breeding or restoration programs.
The partnership combines Colossal's advanced genetic technologies with the federal government's conservation expertise to strengthen efforts to protect vulnerable wildlife. While the BioVault is not intended to replace traditional habitat protection and species recovery initiatives, it provides an additional tool that could help scientists better understand genetic diversity and support future conservation strategies as environmental pressures continue to threaten wildlife populations.
