The National Institute for Innovation in Manufacturing Biopharmaceuticals (NIIMBL) has contributed its biopharmaceutical manufacturing ontologies to The Open Applications Group (OAGi) for further development as an open-source initiative. By transitioning NIIMBL’s ontology efforts to an open-source framework, the aim is to foster broader participation and adoption of standardized processes, thereby enhancing the overall advantages for the biopharmaceutical industry.
Roger Hart, NIIMBL Senior Fellow/ Big Data Project Lead emphasized that this open-source platform ensures industry-wide accessibility to these ontologies, facilitating ongoing refinement and adaptation. This approach consolidates ontologies, currently developed privately by small groups, into a centralized repository.
